Hong Kong Disneyland Video Production Case Study

Hong Kong Disneyland approached APV with an interesting challenge. How to educate parents in China about the amenities and facilities available at Hong Kong Disneyland? Hong Kong Disneyland and APV both agreed: we wanted to create a gripping web video series first, and put any product or facility mentions second. We decided to create a reality TV series starring Sun Li (孫儷), one of China’s hottest actresses. Her nickname is “The Queen of Television”. In 2018, she won the “grand slam” of TV Awards (the Flying Apsaras Awards, Golden Eagle Awards and the Magnolia Awards). What we didn’t know is that she also worked briefly as a performer for Disney back in her early days.

We created a series called “辣媽小包包” in which Sun Li has to entertain and delight a strong-willed five year old, played by the adorable superstar-in-the-making, Mia. A dedicated micro-site was created by YouKu specifically to host these videos. Filming at Hong Kong Disneyland was fun, even though Sun Li was followed by surprised and eager fans throughout the day!

The micro-site garnered almost 2 million views upon launch and some of the comments from viewers included “I haven’t been to Hong Kong Disneyland in 10 years, now I really want to go.” and “I’ve watched and watched it again and I still want to watch some more!”

Manulife Journeys : An Award Winning Social Media Video Series

APV partnered with Manulife to use video as the starting point for its core internal communications and employee engagement. Manulife Asia has set an ambitious strategy: for Manulife to become the number one pan-Asian life insurer.

It was our job to turn that into a clear narrative and set of messages that would engage and motivate over 14,000 staff across Asia.

Under the guidance of Manulife’s innovative and forward-thinking Internal Communications Team, the video production team at APV helped launch the campaign with a three-minute video hosted by Manulife Asia’s new dynamic CEO, Damien Green.

Shot in and around Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam and Cambodia, the video gave people a glimpse into his personality and vision for the region, their customers, their people and their brand, while connecting that vision directly to its intended audience through fast moving and dynamic visuals.

This internal video production is just a small example of our overall larger collaboration with the brand which has extended to a diverse body of work encompassing content like our Manulife TV programme, “Featuring Asia”, which was designed to showcase stories about customers, staff and culture that aligned with their strategy.

Filmed on location in Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Cambodia, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam and at Manulife’s global HQ, Toronto, the show was so successful that Manulife took it from an internal communications TV series on Youtube to an external TV show.

As well as branded content series like “Manulife Journeys”, APV also produces animated conference openers for their annual Asian Leadership Conference, explainer and customer services videos for their Manulife Move app and much more.

 

Haldanes: award winning employee profile videos

Established in 1975, Haldanes is one of Hong Kong’s most established law firms serving clients across Asia.

Haldanes engaged APV as they were looking for a strong Hong Kong video production company who could find an innovative way to promote their firm, the firm’s experience, their people and their unique culture to a wider audience in the region, in a way that enabled them to differentiate and stand out against other law practices.

Wanting to avoid the typical law firm video they had seen on YouTube and other sites, by partnering with APV, instead they created a unique branded content series made up of short and stylish black and white films that profile members of their team, giving insight not just into what they do, but why they do it, while also providing the audience with a greater insight into who the individuals are as people.

“We Are Haldanes” became the first branded content series of its type in Hong Kong for a law firm.

Promoted like a fully-fledged content series, episodes were preceded by a cinematic series trailer to announce the launch of the series and an awards trailer which celebrated the 7 Muse Awards the series won prior to launch.

Prior to the release of each individual episode, mini trailers were released to build up audience awareness and anticipation of the episodes and to encourage their audience to tune in on particular dates for episode launches.

This highly strategic approach not only built an audience for the brand, but it educated that audience and built habits that kept the audience coming back for more time and time again.

Alongside the visual content created APV created a Youtube channel, produced compelling body copy for social media posts, thumbnails, Instagram posts and behind the scenes content that enabled the campaign to successfully run across multiple channels for more than 3 months.

“We Are Haldanes” has been an outstanding success for the firm, building them a new audience, gaining them thousands of views and engagements across their entire social media network and has provided a compelling point of difference against their competitors.
