The video game industry is in a funny place. On one hand it is becoming a huge Hollywood-style industry but on the other it is in a similar place to comics 20 years ago.

What I mean by that is that individuals are beginning to home-bake games of increasing sophistication. They are also digging for nuggets of originality that are ignored by the big game studios (More pixels, more noise, more explicit content)
