john bolton in hong kong PDF Print E-mail

Former US Ambassador to the United Nations and neo-conservative pundit John Bolton spoke recently in Hong Kong at the Foreign Correspondents' Club, where he addressed the subject "North Korea, Iraq, Iran and Cuba: What the Bush Administration Got Right and What It Got Wrong."

Bolton, who is currently a Fox News Contributor in the US and a Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, says that history will issue a mixed verdict on the Bush Administration's eight years running the United States.

Prior to his roles with George W. Bush's Administration, Bolton previously held positions under both George H.W. Bush and Ronald Reagan.  Looking ahead to Barack Obama's upcoming inauguration, Bolton says it is unlikely the new Administration will introduce substantive foreign policy changes.

Addressing issues in the region, Bolton was asked about security concerns, specifically with regard to China's announced plans to upgrade its naval capabilities.  Although he says he doesn't see an immediate military threat to the West from a stronger Chinese navy, Bolton did raise questions about how the Obama Adminstration would respond to a threat to Taiwan.
